Position Summary
This position involves driving seniors to and from meals, medical appointments, social excursions, and other transportation needs. This is a part-time, 10-20 hours/week position that is not eligible for benefits.

General Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions
Essential and other important responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
  • Assist the Senior Center staff with the transportation of Seniors to and from medical appointments, meals, shopping outings, excursions, and other transportation needs.
  • Assist the Senior Center staff with the unloading and delivery of monthly food boxes.
  • Supports the Senior Center snow removal program as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Notice of Emergency/Disaster Responsibilities
All Lake County Employees may be required to work as a Disaster Service Worker when a local declaration of emergency or disaster is declared by the Board of County Commissioners. To be prepared for this role, all employees and emergency service function (ESF) leads will attend emergency management trainings and exercises as requested by the Director of Emergency Management. With advanced notification from OEM, employees will make reasonable efforts to attend training events in coordination with other employees and supervisors.

Requirements
  • Minimum of a high school or equivalent education.
  • Current Colorado Driver’s License.
  • Ability to pass a Colorado Bureau of Investigation Background Check.
  • Have a clean driving record.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • A willingness to assist the senior community of Lake County.
  • Willingness to learn, have good communication skills, and a positive attitude.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; ensuring that all interactions with Seniors, staff, and coworkers are professional, respectful, kind and empathetic.
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish preferred.
Hazard Notice
Most of the duties performed in this position are transportation related. The employee will be both indoors and outdoors assisting senior citizens to and from vehicles to their respective appointments as well as delivering monthly food assistant boxes in a variety of weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to snow, sleet, rain, and other adverse weather conditions while assisting senior citizens.

Physical Activity & Work Environment
  • Ability to conduct activities that involve extensive sitting, substantial standing, daily reaching, assisting seniors to and from vehicles, occasional stepping onto a short steps stool, kneeling, and bending.
  • Ability to lift and carry 35lbs.
  • Ability to drive a county vehicle.
  • Ability to operate wheelchair lift and transport Seniors in senior vans.
