Position Summary
Lake County is looking for a passionate and skilled individual to assist with the day-to-day operation, logistics and management of the Community Gear Library at the Get Outdoors Leadville building located on the CMC Timberline Campus in Leadville.  This position is responsible for overseeing gear library logistics including maintaining and inventorying gear.

The Community Gear Library offers low-cost rental equipment to make outdoor recreation opportunities a possibility for everyone. Our Gear Library has a variety of outdoor gear for hiking, skiing, backpacking, snowshoeing, paddle boarding, fishing, scenic mountain viewing, and more!

General Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions
  • Assess customer needs and aid in transactions including utilizing MyTurn, a cloud-based inventory platform and a point-of-sale system.
  • Prepares lending requests and gear returns for individuals and community organizations.
  • Educate customers on appropriate set up, use and care of equipment  
  • Explains to customers how to operate rental equipment, safety practices, and customer responsibility for the equipment during the rental including length of rental and return options
  • Inspect returned gear and perform necessary maintenance to extend gear longevity, including repairs as needed.
  • Assists with gear inventory, repair, cleaning and maintenance.
  • Ensures a clean, secure, and safe work environment.
  • Identify and report damaged or worn-out equipment for repair or replacement.
  • Provide excellent customer service in a warm, welcoming and positive manner,
  • May drive a County vehicle to transport participants to field sites.

Requirements
Compensation will be determined by the applicant’s full skillset with consideration of the following:

Any satisfactory combination of experience and education that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties outlined above.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Experience doing outdoor recreation activities is preferred.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire, a valid Colorado Driver’s License.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire, First Aid, CPR & AED certification.
  • Have a deep understanding and personal commitment to equity and inclusion in recreation and the outdoors,
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Outdoor equipment and its use.
    • Maintaining and repairing a variety of outdoor equipment is preferred but training will be given.

  • Skills in:
    • Operating standard computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, registration software, credit card machines/point of sale and basic office equipment.

Physical Activity & Work Environment
  • Work may be completed both indoors and outdoors and sometimes in adverse weather conditions.
  • Prolonged periods of standing or walking.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, or climbing.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Occasionally pushing, pulling, or moving objects.
  • Use of hands for repetitive motions such as typing, writing, or operating equipment.
  • Operation of standard office equipment (computers, phones, copiers, etc.).
  • Visual acuity to read and produce accurate documents and materials.
  • Hearing ability sufficient to respond to spoken communication.

Notice of Emergency/Disaster Responsibilities

All Lake County Employees may be required to work as a Disaster Service Worker when a local declaration of emergency or disaster is declared by the Board of County Commissioners. To be prepared for this role, all employees and emergency service function (ESF) leads will attend emergency management trainings and exercises as requested by the Director of Emergency Management. With advanced notification from OEM, employees will make reasonable efforts to attend training events in coordination with other employees and supervisors.
