Position Summary
The On-Call Senior Center Kitchen Assistant supports the Head Cook with food preparation and cleanup. This position involves day-to-day operations at the Senior Center. Hours are not guaranteed and are scheduled depending on need and availability, Tuesday through Friday.

General Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions
  • Assist the Head Cook from CCACOG/Area on Aging as needed.
  •  Follows all policies and procedures related to food storage, preparation, and service as directed by CCACOG/Area on Aging. Follows all applicable local and state health codes and regulations.
  • Ensure that the breakdown & cleanup is complete after each meal.
  • Assists with inventory as required.
  •  Assists with data collection and records keeping in relation to CCACOG/Area on Aging meal service when required.
  • Greet seniors in-person and by phone and answer questions, provide information and referrals as necessary.
  • Drives county vehicle when necessary.
  • Assists with helping seniors getting in and out of vans and cars.
  • Assists with the distribution and paperwork with the Durable Medical Equipment loan program.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings.
  • Maintains a current working knowledge and awareness of Policies & Procedures.
  • Always represents the Lake County Government and the Senior Center in a professional manner.
  • Maintains a high standard of cleanliness in the Senior Center.
  • Assists with other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Compensation will be determined by the applicant’s full skillset with consideration of the following:
  • Must be 18 years of age with a minimum of high school or equivalent education.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment Background Check.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment, under short-term constraints and with established deadlines.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including extended hours.
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license.
  • Have a clean driving record.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  •  A willingness to assist the senior community of Lake County.
  • Willingness to learn, have good communication skills, and a positive attitude.
Hazard Notice
Most of the duties are performed within an indoor environment. The incumbent may be exposed to some noise (electrical, mechanical, or human) on an occasional basis, and other related hazards associated with a kitchen environment, office environment or public service desk serving a diverse clientele. Occasional work may be performed in an outdoor environment where conditions are variable and dependent on weather.

  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, or work at heights.
  • Ability to operate motor vehicles and/or machinery.
  • Standard office environment with controlled temperature and lighting.
  • Work performed in a loud, noisy, or distracting environment.
  • Exposure to fumes, chemicals, or hazardous materials.
  • Interaction with the public, sometimes in high-pressure or emotionally charged situations.
  • Work in confined spaces or physically restrictive conditions.
  • Work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, or high-volume environment.

All Lake County Employees may be required to work as a Disaster Service Worker when a local declaration of emergency or disaster is declared by the Board of County Commissioners. To be prepared for this role, all employees and emergency service function (ESF) leads will attend emergency management trainings and exercises as requested by the Director of Emergency Management. With advanced notification from OEM, employees will make reasonable efforts to attend training events in coordination with other employees and supervisors.
