Position Summary 

Lake County Government is dedicated to providing valuable learning opportunities to students through our Internship Program. Our goal for this internship program is to actively engage students within our community, providing meaningful learning experience that bridge academic knowledge with hands-on experience, fostering their professional growth and contributing to the vibrant development of Lake County. 

Key Highlights of Internship Program: 

Project-Centric Focus: Interns will be assigned to projects that offer real-world challenges and opportunities for skill development.  

Mentorship Relationships: Each intern will be paired with a supervisor who will serve as their mentor throughout the internship period. This mentorship relationship is designed to guide and support the intern's professional development.  

Learning and Development: We are committed to creating an environment where interns can learn and develop new skills that align with their academic pursuits and career aspirations. This program is an opportunity for them to apply classroom knowledge in a practical setting.  

This is a paid seasonal position from May 20th-July 31st. Interns will be paid $16/hour working a total of 80 hours per term. Interns will work with their supervisor to create a flexible schedule to meet the 80-hour mark. Interviews for this position are flexible up until 5/10.

The Lake County Communications Team is critical to connecting the County with the Leadville Community. Through social media, web and print materials the Communications Team creates the messages that keep our community in the know! 

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Draft social media posts for a variety of departments. 

  • Draft flyers and posters in Canva. 

  • Distribute flyers and other materials around town.  

  • Update content on the County’s website.  

  • Evaluate website’s content for Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). 

  • Other duties as assigned.

Notice of Emergency/Disaster Responsibilities

All Lake County Employees may be required to work as a Disaster Service Worker when a local declaration of emergency or disaster is declared by the Board of County Commissioners. To be prepared for this role, all employees and emergency service function (ESF) leads will attend emergency management trainings and exercises as requested by the Director of Emergency Management. With advanced notification from OEM, employees will make reasonable efforts to attend training events in coordination with other employees and supervisors.
