Position Summary

The Night Shift Custodian will be responsible for cleaning and maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of buildings, facilities, and grounds. They will perform a variety of tasks to ensure a safe and hygienic environment for occupants and visitors.

General Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and mirrors
  • Empty trash bins and replace liners
  • Dust and wipe down surfaces, including desks, windowsills, and fixtures
  • Clean and disinfect common areas such as lobbies, hallways, and elevators
  • Clean windows and glass surfaces
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks, like changing light bulbs, repairing fixtures, and unclogging drains
  • Report any major maintenance or repair needs to Maintenance Foreman
  • Ensure that heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems are in good working order
  • Monitor and maintain cleaning equipment and supplies
  • Sort and dispose of recyclable materials appropriately
  • Manage waste disposal in accordance with local regulations
  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents
  • Clean up spills and hazardous materials promptly
  • Ensure that safety signage and barriers are in place when necessary
  • Replenish supplies such as toilet paper, soap, and paper towels in restrooms and common areas
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies and request refills as needed
  • Maintain records of cleaning and maintenance activities
  • Report any issues or concerns with Maintenance Foreman

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent years of experience
  • Previous custodial or janitorial experience is preferred
  • Knowledge of cleaning procedures and equipment
  • Physical stamina and the ability to lift and carry heavy objects
  • Attention to detail and thoroughness in performing tasks
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish preferred.

Hazard Notice

Typically works indoors and outdoors, depending on the facility. The work may involve exposure to cleaning chemical and physical exertion. Hours may include evenings and weekends as required.

Notice of Emergency/Disaster Responsibilities

All Lake County Employees may be required to work as a Disaster Service Worker when a local declaration of emergency or disaster is declared by the Board of County Commissioners. To be prepared for this role, all employees and emergency service function (ESF) leads will attend emergency management trainings and exercises as requested by the Director of Emergency Management. With advanced notification from OEM, employees will make reasonable efforts to attend training events in coordination with other employees and supervisors.
